The Halifax Regional Municipality and the Government of Nova Scotia are pleased to introduce you to Nova Scotia's first two hybrid public transit buses. With every stop in downtown Halifax, these buses are saving fuel and reducing greenhouse-gas emissions. Be sure to check back often to track just how much greenhouse gas emissions are reduced!

Project Description

Hybrid technology works for personal vehicles. Now Halifax bus riders will benefit from these clean machines.

The Halifax Regional Municipality and the Government of Nova Scotia have teamed up to buy two of these environmentally friendly vehicles. They hit the road on March 2, 2010, and will be tested for 18 months to see how much fuel can be saved, and how much greenhouse-gas emissions can be reduced, through the use of this hybrid technology.

Bus Description

The blue sky and fluffy white clouds are hard to miss, but good looks are just the beginning with these buses. Inside you'll find comfortable seating for almost 60 people.

The hybrid buses feature greatly reduced engine noise, as well as more safety and accessibility features than ever before.

Perhaps one of the most interesting features of the hybrid buses is their eco-friendly interior. The seats are upholstered with fabric made from recycled plastic bottles and used yarn. In addition to keeping these materials out of our landfills, this process is also more energy efficient than making new materials. Tests show that this recycled fabric is more durable and easier to clean than regular fabrics.
